My History

If you know the song "Boondocks" by Little Big Town you know a little bit about me...

"Give me a tin roof

A front porch and a gravel road

And that's home to me

It feels like home to me

I feel no shame

I'm proud of where I came from

I was born and raised in the boondocks

One thing I know

No matter where I go

I keep my heart and soul in the boondocks"

I was born and raised in a small community on several acres of land...and, yes, we lived on a dirt road! We also had a tin roof and a front porch!

As homeschoolers, my brothers and sister and I had a lot of time to explore our land. We had a few acres of trees that backed up to a dairy farm...so we often went exploring...or building hay forts!

"I feel no shame

I'm proud of where I came from

It's where I learned about living

It's where I learned about love

It's where I learned about working hard

And having a little was just enough"

It was out there in the "boondocks" growing up that I learned about living, about if you want something bad enough in life you have to work hard for it...nothing is free and if you get something for nothing it doesn't have as much value!

Growing up, the financial struggles were real. My mom stayed home to raise us and school us, so money was often tight...but we had enough.

"It's where I learned about Jesus

And knowing where I stand

You can take it or leave it, this is me

This is who I am"

I learned about Jesus growing up. My mom always reminded us that knowing about Jesus or being religious was never enough...that the only thing that mattered was having a relationship with Jesus.

So now you know..."This is me, this is who I am!"
